Shiver was everything I hoped that it would be!
When I first found out that Shiver dealt with “werewolves” of sorts, I was a little worried if I would enjoy it. After being assured multiple times that this was a different kind of story, I dove right in. In short, I'm so glad that I did because it was great!
Learning about Sam and his pack, meeting Grace, then watching them fall into a deep love. This book is so emotional, and perfectly written! I truly believed that Sam and Grace would do anything to be together. Following them through their struggle just made it all the more real.
This story is the perfect mixture of action and romance. Loved it! I'll be waiting anxiously for Linger!
This was a great book. I had some trouble sticking with it because it had a little too much romance in it for me, but overall I liked it I can't wait until I start the next one.
This book has the perfect balance of romance and plot. The romance was not overdone or tremendously corny. “I love you; I need you; you make my every breath worth breathing” was (thankfully) not plastered across every page. The love was much more subtly sweet and realistic than that. And the premise is interesting and endearing. The entire book is set at a great pace–it never feels like it's moving too slowly or too quickly. The last 60 or so pages are suspenseful, right up until the last page, which ends on an almost-cliffhanger. It answers the most important question, but leaves a million others lingering (haha, book #2 shout-out) in your mind.
None of this would matter without Maggie Stiefvater's wonderful writing. Definitely one of the best-written young adult novels I've read. Her words are poetic and descriptive and–brilliant, just brilliant. The split point-of-view is one of my favorite parts of this book (out of many), and it must not have been easy to do. But Maggie did it–and convincingly well. Heck, she did everything convincingly well–no, amazingly well.
