Shine, Pamela! Shine!

Een kort verhaal van een van mijn favoriete schijfsters, in opdracht van Amazon, dus of het ergens anders te lezen is, is niet helemaal duidelijk.

Fantastische beschrijving van het leven van Pamela, wiens man haar heeft ingeruild voor een jonger exemplaar.

“‘If you can't say anything nice,', she had tutored her own children, Amy and Nicholas, ‘then don't say anything nice at all.'. ‘Jesus, Mother,' Any had said, ‘you're such a fucking marshmallow'. Take out the obscenity and stick on an exclamation mark and it was almost (bot not quite) a compliment.”

Ze is nogal saai, maar daar komt aan het einde opeens verandering in – zoals van Kate Atkinson te verwachten was een fijne plotwending/twist aan het eind.

“Pamela wanted to die with her own hips and her own teeth, beyond which she didn't have much of a goal.”
