At the end of Shadow of the Giant, Bean flees to the stars with three of his children—the three who share the engineered genes that gave him both hyper-intelligence and a short, cruel physical life. The time dilation granted by the speed of their travel gives Earth's scientists generations to seek a cure, to no avail. Disappointing follow-up in the Ender's Shadow series. I'll probably still read the final installment Shadows Alive anyway to see what happens. I can't say enough good things about both the Ender Quartet and the Shadow series, but I wish Card had stopped this series after Shadow of the Giant.
This story occurs years before some of the previously published works in this series - and the author uses some rather silly logic to explain why the secrets revealed in this book never impacted the events that happen in the other books.
Interesting short story that brings us one step closer to the end of the narrative of both Bean & Ender Wiggins story lines. Presumably, the next book (Shadows alive) will combine and wrap-up the last narratives in this Universe.
