পুরো একমাস লাগলো! মাঝে অবশ্য আরো কয়েকটা বই পড়া হয়েছে। রাশিয়ান লেখা সবসময়ই ভালো লাগে আমার। কারণ হয়ত প্রগতির দুর্দান্ত বাঙলা অনুবাদ। ওগুলো সরাসরি রুশ থেকেই অনুবাদ হত, ইংরেজির গলি ঘুরে না। আমেজ অক্ষত থাকত অনেকটাই। ইংরেজিও এখন খারাপ লাগছে না। রাশিয়ানদের সাথে আমাদের মনস্তাত্ত্বিক ঘঠনে বোধহয় একটু বেশিই মিল আছে। আপন মনে হয় বেশি তাদের। কেউ যদি গোর্কিকে জীবনঘনিষ্ঠতার জন্য আলাদা করে দেখেন তো ভুল করবেন, রাশিয়ান লেখামাত্রই জীবনঘনিষ্ঠ। অন্যান্য বিভিন্ন দেশি সাহিত্যের তুলনায় মধ্যবৃত্তের আরামের আতিশয্যে করা আবেগের বাচালামি একটু কমই এদের। চেখভকে আলাদা করা যায় ওর রসোবোধ দিয়ে। একটু কম সিরিয়াস সে অনেক গল্পে। অনেক গল্প নিছকই হাসির গল্প। আর সবগুলোই সুপাঠ্য।

This collection of Anton Chekhov stories cover a lot of themes and give a glimpse into the people in his time; their lives, behaviour and thought processes.

While most stories revolve around relationship of man and woman; either blooming love or sour marriage or cheating spouse, there is always a very real human thought process that is explored.

Stories of young adults and their thirst for adventures are also covered well.
