actual rating: 4.5 starsi'm sure we've all read a really terrible dystopia novel in our day (the most memorable shitty ones for me were [b:Shatter Me 10429045 Shatter Me (Shatter Me, #1) Tahereh Mafi https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1310649047s/10429045.jpg 15333458] and [b:Delirium 11614718 Delirium (Delirium, #1) Lauren Oliver https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1327890411s/11614718.jpg 10342808]), but i PROMISE YOU this one isn't one of those! i love the world of scythe, the world building was done very well. set in a world where there is no mortal death and those who die are βgleaned' (aka selected to be killed for population control), you will be intrigued to see comparisons of their dystopian society to ours in the present. the concept of gleaning is a very interesting and complex with many grey areas that are explored throughout the book. the mc's, rowan and citra, are two very clever teenagers that face very adult dilemmas and handle them in very mature ways. i really, really enjoyed this book! when my book ban is over i am definitely going to pick up [b:Thunderhead 33555224 Thunderhead (Arc of a Scythe, #2) Neal Shusterman https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1505658534s/33555224.jpg 54332060]!!!!
