The world here is so, so interesting. I mean, we are on another Earth where some historical things overlap. Vampires are primarily from Europe. Native Americans are Werewolves. Incubus come from... South America... if I'm remembering correctly. So, occasionally I would get a weird twinge about how human races were turned into different species....
We've got an interesting story here though and many great characters. I really liked how Sorin isn't the usual type of Alpha we see. He's strong and protective, but he isn't an asshole! Susan is smart, curious, and willing to learn although she did a few things that seemed out of character for someone so smart. Unfortunately, sometimes it felt like other issues in the book were more important that the main characters. I don't mind romance taking a back seat, but it is weird to me when side characters get equal POV time with the main characters. It made Sorin and Susan's romance feel a bit rushed since we didn't get to see them for the whole book. There were times I would wonder why we were hearing about something else... so, I was surprised when their relationship was wrapped up in one book. With all the extra stuff going on, I thought their story would be multi-part or something.
It is a pretty good book, one I might recommend to people looking for a paranormal romance with some sci-fi elements, but I don't think I'll be reading the next book.
