During his first year at the Dashelmore Warrior Training Academy, Sam Finch proved himself a hero when he saved King Leodin's daughter, Princess Sarah, from an evil sorcerer named Demalikar. But there was a price to pay... In order to save his father's life, Sam had to make a pact with Demalikar. One day the evil sorcerer would call upon Sam to do him a favor. Sam has no idea what that favor might be, but he knows one thing for sure: it won't be good. Now attending his second year at the Academy, Sam continues his warrior training, while also dabbling in Mage Skills and the Holy Arts. As if that isn't enough to keep him busy, he also finds himself struggling with his feelings for two different girls and trying to avoid the class bully, Cully Duke. It doesn't help that he must endure his best friend Curtis's musical night farts, too. Demalikar intends to raise an army of the undead in order to wreak havoc on the world and calls upon Sam to do him the favor he is owed. Sam must decide whether to keep his promise or to risk his father's life. And he will also have to deal with his greatest fear of all: growing up!"

This is a great book. I do wish I had read the first book in the series prior to reading this one, but it as still enjoyable.
This is a middle grade novel full of adventure and fantasy. It is sure to keep a readers attention. This magic, a unique setting, adventure, and weird creatures.
I will definitely be reading more by this author in the future. The plot is nothing like the Harry Potter books, but the writing style reminds me of Rowling's writing. I have never said that about another author. Coming from me, that is a major compliment. I would not be surprised to see this become a very popular series with readers in the middle grade readers.
