I'm a bit late to the party on this one, but whooo boy, did I enjoy it.

With Dark Age coming out next week, I decided I needed to binge read the series so I'm good and ready for it.

Immensely entertaining, the story immediately hones right in on Darrow and stays there. This, I think, adds to the intensity. And intense it is. Heart pounding and heart breaking in equal measure.

I did struggle a bit with the believability of a 16 year old boy being that skilled in strategy and thinking on his feet. Sure, he screws up a few times, which we would expect him to do, but I dunno. Then I think, ok, this guy has been toiling in the mines, has a FIERCE loyalty and love for his family and wife, so maybe he is that evolved. Anyway, this just makes it more intriguing for me, truth be told. I can't wait to see what happens next. I really want Darrow to succumb, just a bit, to the temptations of Gold life. He is human after all, right?

I'm also really hoping Golden Son explores Darrow's relationship with Mustang ... lots of ?'s hanging over that one.

On to book 2!
