Ashlock wakes in the courtyard of a demonic sect... as a tree. A tree that eats people.
An odd start to a new life. Almost as strange as the cultivators flying through the skies on flaming swords and challenging the heavens. After all, this is a world where one can transcend mortality through cultivation.
But Ashlock is a spirit tree. Despite being in a different body than the demonic young masters cultivating on the mountain peaks around him, he has the same goal—to be the strongest in all the realms and survive the beast tides.
Thankfully, it turns out that spirit trees are well-suited for cultivation.
Every day that passes, he grows continuously stronger as he spends the days cultivating and using a suspicious daily sign-in system that grants him powerful skills, mutations, summons, and items, all in exchange for credits earned from devouring flesh and watching the seasons pass.
But his man-eating ways can only go unnoticed for so long, and those around him will soon grow suspicious. Ashlock's only chance of survival is to grow faster and stronger than any tree has ever done in the history of the nine realms.

This was a very interesting read for me, I was very nervous about the original concept; namely its about a Tree that is rooted in place :-) I was worried that the story would be boring, but it actually pulled it off really well and was pretty engaging. I'll definitely read book two! The narrator was also pretty decent for the audiobook.
Really good! There are some serious eye rolling bits, but I ate this shit up. Already preordered book 2. Closest contender yet to Dinneman's Kaiju:BS and the DCC litrpg throne.
Cool concept, ends up boring
The concept of a human reborn as a sentient cultivating tree is pretty interesting. Besides that the story & characters are pretty cool, but the author never actually dive into this. Everything remains reactionary. MC is an immobile tree, characters remain only around this immobile tree and we're just waiting for stuff to happen.
The progression is extremely unsatisfying with a random slot machine system. No effort or breakthroughs involved. MC needs some corpses for points, rolls the slot machine and gets another SSS tier skill.
