An excellent wrap up to this trilogy. Bartimaeus is just as funny and witty in this book as in the first two, however we DO get a better look at his past in Ptolemy's Gate. This look at his distant past gives us insight into why he is who he is. It helps with the fantastic character development that happens in the last bit of the book. And speaking of character development, Nathaniel and Kitty both go through serious transformations in this book. Timely, hard-won transformations.
As with the other two, I highly recommend this book. You can't go wrong with a Bartimaeus novel.
Okay. These are fantasy-tastic, but very well written. the only issue i have is the ending...i will not spoil it for you, but it is very literary. it is so common for many of these YA books to perform exactly as the student's want them to...happy endings all around and everyone gets their just desert. it is refreshing to see a series that defies this paradigm.
it isn't book theif, but it is a more productive read than most of the schlock.
Combines the best qualities of the earlier books, and even improves upon them. Nathaniel has grown up, Bartimaeus still can't hold his tounge, and the story is grittier, darker, and at times, touching. A masterpiece of an ending. Jonathan Stroud is awesome!
