Persephone's Orchard

Persephone & Hades' love story is one of my favorites, so I'm always ready to read a retelling. I went into this one with a lot of excitement. The synopsis made me think there was going to be a bit of mystery here and the first chapters really raised my excitement.

The problem is, a lot of this book felt like information dumps as we went through their original story through memories. So, there wasn't as much action or present-day story as I thought there would be. Now, this isn't to say I didn't find their original love story to be cute, I really did like it, but it felt like the story was on hold in order to show their previous love unfurl... not really their current romance, which progressed mostly because of Sophie's memories of their past. So, I wasn't terribly impressed – I was totally turned off Adrian when he gives Sophie the pomegranate even after she says no and he makes it seem like he respects her decision and wants her to want it. He doesn't get points for knowing he did bad and that she would be mad at him. Although, this is the story so.... shrugs

By the end of the book I felt like nothing had really happened, I have so many questions, AND the original love story isn't even OVER because we don't know how/why things originally went sour for them. So, there will still be tons of flashbacks in the upcoming books.... I won't be continuing this one. 

Yet, three stars, because it was entertaining.
