Perfectly fine BFFs to lovers romance, but I wanted something more than “I can't tell him/her how I feel because I don't want to ruin our friendship.” I guess the “something more” consisted of the entertaining adventures that Poppy and Alex had on their summer vacation trips, but I was looking for something with more depth. Unfortunately most of the character growth happens off-page, after the obligatory third act breakup. Henry's breakout adult novel [b:Beach Read 52867387 Beach Read Emily Henry https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1589881197l/52867387.SX50.jpg 67832247] did a better job of integrating interesting themes into the central love story, but taken on its own merits, People We Meet on Vacation was entertaining and sweet. The author notes in her postscript that the book is in part an homage to the classic film When Harry Met Sally, and if you like the straightlaced guy paired with free-spirited girl trope, you could do a lot worse.
