Parts of this did manage to be a bit creepy but this book was way too long - there were so many long meandering sentences that didn't mean anything. The kids didn't sound like kids to me (they had the exact same vocabulary at 5 and 10) and the adults made unbelievable decisions. The villain's final “plot” is genuinely ridiculous.
