Not a groundbreaking effort like Gibson's best-known work, Neuromancer. Never-the-less, this moderately entertaining “present day” science fiction novel does provide an interesting take on the swirling sea of (in Gibson's words) “reptilian emotions” that we feel and act upon in response to marketing and branding schemes.
One noteworthy shortcoming is that Gibson, at times, resorts to in-artful schemes in failing efforts to maintain the continuity and plausibility of his various plot lines. The novel's conclusion, not surprisingly, did not not effectively tie together the various loose ends.
