Why did I let Audible talk me into this as a historical novel? While the Scottish history of the 18th century is quite interesting, and Bonnie Prince Charlie and his followers make for a very good story, I cringed when I realized that I had started a high-brow bodice ripper. I almost stopped listening after chapter two or three, but a wee bit of me wanted to see how Gabaldon wove all this together, so I persisted. Unfortunately for me, I, too, am a sucker for the emotional tug of romance novels (which is why I don't read them–I hate the way they pull at strings; it feels very pornographic to me and not at all good) and got caught up in the tale. The ending is obviously a great prep for book #2, but I will not be joining the journey.
