I should have looked more carefully before starting this book. I did not know it would be a “romance” novel, I was looking for more of an adventure or historical fiction book.
The good: The plot and the story about the adventures in Scotland were creative and interesting. I found myself thinking and speaking in a Scottish accent occasionally due to this book. I liked that the main character has a lot strength of character and I liked that she is a nurse and uses her skills aid the sick and injured.
The bad:
I had to skip whole sections because the scenes were too much for me. There are a few parts of the book that talk about being raped and assaulted that I could not bear, even the few sentences I started made me ill. I had a problem with the main character being married to two different men even though they live in different times. The book was really long and seemed to have no end in sight.
I don't really feel like I understood the ending very well, mostly because I had to skip so much of it.
This is not a book for young people. I am not grown up enough to read most of this book.
