In this book following Captives, book 1 in the Safe Lands Trilogy (read that review here) , Outcasts brings us even deeper into the Safe Lands as we root for our favorite characters to escape the city.
Just as with the first book, our characters are still full of their own surprises and take on their trials and obstacles in unique ways. The story just keeps getting better towards the end of this book and you'd better brace yourself for a cliffhanger and have book 3 (Rebels) close at hand!
As I mentioned in my review of Captives, there is some drug and alcohol use as well as sexual content, but Outcasts has considerably less of this negative content than the first book did. The content is still “there” but because the readers understand the story world much better in this book, that content isn't at the forefront of every scene. Also, the content is shown to be “bad” rather than “good” like in many young adult series.
So overall, I was very pleased with Outcasts and give it 5 out of 5 stars.
I received this book from the author/publisher for the purpose of this review. All comments and opinions are entirely my own.
