Sarah Bessey has a way of writing about difficult things that makes her books seem like warm, comforting presences. Her words are there to guide you through the dark nights of the soul with a warm cup of tea and a empathetic hug. I love this book and it spoke directly into my stage of life. Fully recommend for anyone sorting through the faith of their childhood with the eyes of adulthood
Short Review: This is a very good memoir-ish exploration of Christian growth and change as we mature. Much of it is an exploration of church. The main takeaway is that as much as church communities are flawed, they are still a necessary part of Christian faith. But the book is more than that and it is hard to describe all of the different topics covered.
What I enjoy most about Bessey's writing is her ability to be inclusive in her writing and not exclude those the disagree with some of her positions. It is a gift, and one that I think the church as a whole both needs more and needs to celebrate more.
