Interesting, despite the obvious connection with And then there were none and a bit of obvviousness in the choices.
Exactly what I expect from Ware. Solid, if predictable plotting, claustrophobic setting and steady tension made for a typical “popcorn” fun read.
More psychothriller than mystery: the question isn't so much who as why; and, I suppose how, in the sense of, how did they expect to get away with it. It kept me entertained enough on a cold drizzly morning, but I'm unlikely to remember much about it in a month.
The real burning mystery is: why did I read this? Someone recommended it to me, months ago, and I placed it on hold at the library – but without logging my usual side notes. Whodunnit? And why?
Great thriller, made me want a ski vacation but that seems like the wrong reaction? Ware is great at setting the scene and setting up mysteries. Some parts were a little redundant or overdone, but totally worth a read.
Buddy read! Agree with 3.5 star rating.
While it was slow I think the build up was worth the ending, which I really enjoyed, and the book was overall super readable. Could've been the short chapters too they made it super readable.
The end was SUPER interesting and I really enjoyed.
i know this is an unpopular opinion but i really enjoyed this book! sometimes you just need a cozy and slightly predictable mystery. i was thoroughly entertained by the morally gray characters and atmospheric setting! 4 stars ⭐️
I've really enjoyed each of the Ruth Ware's books I've read so I was excited to get my hands on One by One. I might've gone into it with higher than usual expectations. The reviews tout that the book gives off Agatha Christie vibes and the last book I read which had reviews that boasted this was Shari Lapena's book entitled An Unwanted Guest, which I also gave only 3 stars. This story takes place in an alpine ski chalet which really sounds like a nice place to visit with a team of co-workers. The guests are a team behind a trendy mobile app and they're all part owners. However, they don't all seem to get along (obviously, because what would be thrilling about that? lol). When a snowstorm rolls in, leaving them all stranded, things start getting dicey. My rating is lower than usual because I found that the culprit who starts killing off the guests is really obvious all along and so it's not very exciting. Saying more about this book would spoil it so I'll let you check it out yourself. Thanks for reading my review! :)
Enjoyed this one. However, I think it was fairly obvious who was the culprit right from the start. Srill, it was an enjoyable read!
Omg, that was sooooo good!!! If I could have read this book in one go, I totally would have! As it is it took me 2 days, which isn't bad to be fair!
It had me hooked from the first page and I enjoyed trying to figure out who dunnit! It was really well written and I personally felt myself sharing the characters fear, anxiety and I could really the picture the isolated scenery (talking of which I hope I never find myself isolated in a place like that! That is scary especially with a murderer on the loose!)
I got a chance to read this book through NetGalley, so thank you to them for accepting my request to read it and of course, thank you to Ruth for creating such a thrilling book!
If you like a good thriller, then I highly recommend this to you!
