Of Fire and Ash is a fantasy epic that follows the journeys of Ceridwen, Rafi, and Jakim as they each struggle to find their place and to survive in war-torn countries. It switches perspectives each chapter, although it focuses mainly on one character, Ceridwen, giving it the interest of several separate stories while still tied together enough as not to make it disconnected or disorienting. It's great for anyone looking for a unique, interesting book with plenty of suspense and action, as well as Christian themes that aren't a main focus of the book but still give it deeper meaning.
Content Warnings:
This book has a lot of battle, so there is necessarily a lot of violence, the most graphic being when a mother and her young children are killed, and the father is captured and later killed. However, this is only mentioned; there are no gory details, so it isn't too bad.
There is no swearing, which I appreciated, although the author uses fictional exclamations that reflect the different cultures.
