I read the prologue and the first chapter – 32 pages; 7% of the book. It has to be said that the writing here is fabulous and the concept has me wanting to know more about the story. Unfortunately, I'm just not into it. It is a wee bit wordy for me and drawn out. The interest is there, but not to the point where I'd want to read 400+ more pages of this one. This might just be something I'd rather watch as a TV show than read about.
If you're into character driven stories and well developed characters, then this might be one for you.
I'm ... so disappointed . I had very high expectations and hope that this will be like the first book, or even better. I mean the first one was .. FIRE, dark, fast paced, full of action. In short words, I couldn't put it down .. But this ... sadly it did not work for me, I don't know what had happened, I felt like I was reading different book from a different series, it was slow for me, not enough action, and ... the characters, to be honest, I did not care about any of them, even the MC.
I almost dnfed it many times, that explains how much I didn't enjoy it as i hoped.
I'm very sad, I really wanted to finish the series, but I don't think I will.
In this second book we see Fallon, her training and her hero's journey, as well as her family. Concurrently, we see life in New Hope. I have to admit this last part was a lot more interesting for me, as I already had an emotional connection to New Hope and it's residents, particularly the New Hope originals. I also loved the way Fallon, Duncan and Antonia recognized each other, even though they had met years before when the twins were babies and Fallon was still in her mother's womb. I really liked this book and I am looking forward to the last one.
WOW!!!!!! That was SO MUCH!!!!!!! I definitely liked this more than the first book!!! I LOVED Fallon as a character!!! I really felt for her and her struggles!!! Plus that ENDING!!!!!! This was so SO GOOD!!!!! I can't WAIT to start the next one!!!!!
I love Nora Roberts books in general. This one though appeared to be written by someone else entirely. The writing was clunky and juvenile and the story “barely” was recognizable with the first book. I'm not sure if she hired a ghost writer or what she did, but I won't be reading the 3rd installment. I was very disappointed and I hope this isn't a sign of things to come.
I've got to hand it to Nora Roberts - she's a hell of a storyteller, and she isn't afraid to go in a new direction after 200+ books. Considering this is the second book of a trilogy, there's a lot of growth, some action, and in Fallon she has created a compelling Chosen One who speaks grand prophecies even as she grumbles about having to use an outhouse. Plus how many Chosen Ones still have their parents at their backs to train up their armies and amplify their magic spells? I'm almost sorry that Roberts added the inevitable love interest towards the end of the book, but on the other hand I'm curious to see how their relationship will play out as the trilogy moves towards its conclusion. I'm also wondering which characters that I have grown fond of will be sacrificed along the way (Nora is no George RR Martin but I have a feeling not everyone on the right side will get out of this alive).
