4/5 - This was a fun read. All the characters were adorable, especially the kids. However I hated how Nora was depressed for 10 whole months over a man she had a 3 week affair with. Like girl, STAND UP!
What I loved most about this book was that it deviation from the usual tropes. Oh, they were there, but unexpected twists gave me a moment to pause and consider the consequences. A really fun read!
Leo and Nora's relationship is sweet and the sunrise connection was unique and memorable. The kids are wonderful and her friends are great. I was shocked by the break up, but then it was explained so well. I was shocked at how quickly I forgave everyone involved! This was a great fluffy romance.
This was fabulous and so unexpected.
I felt such happiness reading this, I squealed and kicked my feet.
Nora is a romance movie screenwriter, and her latest is being filmed right in her backyard.
The lead actor Leo sleeps in a trailer in her yard, and eventually weasels his way to the porch, then into the tea house in the back (which the film is based around)
He takes a break from Hollywood life, and asks to stay at Nora's tea house for a week. He ends up tagging along to her errands, and getting a feel for her schedule and “normal life” (who knew bananas were so cheap!)
They have this whirlwind of a spring season, and eventually fall in love, but he has to quickly leave to film a huge movie in LA.
The conflict and the growth with Nora and her single parenting was wonderful to see. She holds herself up so strongly for her kids, even when she is breaking down.
3.7 stars. Really liked the story until it came to the miscommunication between the two main characters. Why can't adults communicate with each other??
I was sold for the first half of this book, but the resolution was annoying. Adults that take a child's word for something pertaining to their adult relationship without having a single adult conversation is dumb. Kids saying “the darndest things” is so ingrained in our society and there are a million stories where a child says something so out of context and outside the bounds of reality, but you're just going to sit there and base your life around it? No. It felt like lazy writing. I still liked it overall.
I quite liked the light and funny tone the author uses. Charming, so it was a bit disappointing when the plot then went down the typical heartbreak-due-to-misunderstandings territory.
This book was not for me. I expected to love it, but I just felt no chemistry between Nora and Leo. They went from acquaintances to love so fast. I was so surprised when they started throwing around love.
We didn't learn anything about Leo. He's beautiful, a great actor who doesn't think anyone should act, and doesn't know how to go grocery shopping.
He ghosted Nora after two weeks. I don't get what he brought to the table besides money and beauty. The entire conflict of the book was because Leo didn't ask any follow up questions to a text from a 10 year old. Then he weirdly (possessively) declared them married after they spent more time apart than together.
