This review is just to help me remember key points about the book. If you find it helpful or relatable that's cool too.Pride Month Edition
I really enjoyed this! I don't often read short story collections cause I find it's hard for them to keep my attention with the plot constantly changing, but I won this in a giveaway and the premise sounded really interesting!
I probably would've finished this sooner but some of the stories genuinely scared me so much that I couldn't read the book when it was dark out, so it took me a few days to get through it. I was surprised that there were a few wholesome stories thrown in along with the scary ones, but I think it provided a nice little palate cleanser every so often, so it wasn't just non-stop horror.
I loved how diverse the characters were; it's nice going into a bunch of little stories where the expectation is that they'll be queer instead of just idly hoping for it.
Definitely an enjoyable read!
A short, spooky, sweet collection of LGBTQIA+ stories? Yes please! I loved how this collection focused on so many diverse perspectives from minority groups! We didn't get the same boring groups. Some of the stories were easy 5 star reads, others were just okay. Overall though, I would say this is pretty solid and just in time for spoopy season
This collection is true YA, in that I would be comfortable putting it in the hands of an actual teenager, there is nothing overly graphic in there (no real gore, no spice) and the characters aren't just adults in teenage bodies they sound like actual teens and deal with things the way teenagers would.
I saw this book compared to Goosebumps and I think the comparison is fair in that it would make a splendid introduction to horror for a new generation of potential horror fans.
This anthology contains both sweetness and bleakness, and there's an overall good variety of stories. My favourite story was Hey There, Demons by Tara Sims because of the demon's sense of humor but every story has its own charm.
I received an eARC of this book though NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
