I read this as part of the In death series readalong and since I've never read anything by this author who by the way is actually Nora Roberts if you didn't know I didn't really have any expectations going into it. I just wanted to try something new and I can honestly say after only reading book one I am hooked and can't wait to read book 2.

This book is set in the future which at first threw me off because it didn't really say anything about the time period until we were well into the book so some of what I was reading I was like is this even a thing and then it was mentioned and I was like ok I get it now. Upon reading others reviews I have found out that it's set in 2058. I don't actually remember it saying the year but maybe I missed that part.

Eve is the heroine and I really liked her character. She's a Lieutenant and the lead on the case and she's the youngest Lieutenant they've had. She is tough and can take care of herself while also being flawed. She has a backstory which we learn more about as we read it and ties into the overall story. There is one thing that happend a few times during the story that I'm not sure about. Whenever she addressed another cop that were ranked below her I think they kept saying yes sir? I don't know if that's actually a thing or not but every time it happened it kept standing out to me.

Then there is Roarke. Oh Roarke what can I say about you? He's the hero of the story and he's hot and very self assured and he's Irish and also flawed. I couldn't help but fall in love with his as well. but I did have some issues with some of his behavior. I felt like he was being a little too pushy at times.

That ending came out of nowhere. I totally wasn't expecting that twist at all. I did have 2 suspects on my list but I never narrowed it down but I will say one of them was right but like I said there was a twist I never suspected at all.
The goal for the In Death series readalong is to read 1 book a month all year but I'm not sure I am going to be able to wait that long between each book because I really just want more but I will try to hold back.
