So cute! The drawing style is so cute, and I love the colour choices they made for the book. The book on the other hand was just as good. This is a young adult read and I would have loved this when I was a teen.
It’s a light easy read that radiates comfort. The witchcraft in the book is charming and friendly. I just wish this were longer. I feel like there could have been more to explore about the characters. It's worth the read and one I would look at again.
It's a cute story, I would have loved it more if I was 30 years younger :-D
I'm not too fond of the illustrations, but it's not bad.
Graphic novel. Sapphic. Witch. Werewolf. Non-binary. Disability rep. Asian rep. While I love these elements, and the gorgeous color palette, the chemistry was somehow off for me. 3 stars. (Glad I read it, not planning to revisit, happy to recommend.)
for a book titled mooncakes, there was only one tiny plate of them (i think) on page 90 and then several missed opportunities for tam's naked butt due to decorum
jokes aside i wish i liked this more than i did. oh well!
The artwork and illustrations were immaculate. The battle and betrayal storylines were well done. The romance, friendship, and other relationships felt a little forced.
3.5. It is such a cute and cozy story! However, because of how short it is, I am left wanting more depth from these characters and the plot didn't really surprise me in any way. It's a quick story that has some of the most beautiful illustrations, but it didn't connect with me on the level I seek from a book.

Hearing impaired representation.
This was incredibly sweet and empowering. The art was beautiful.
me gustó mucho, fue una historia muy tierna, pero por momentos me resultaba algo infantil. la relación al principio la sentí muy apurada, pero luego empezó a avanzar a un ritmo más tranquilo.
mucha representación en varios sentidos y muy bien hecha.
Such a cute little graphic novel, beautifully illustrated and delightfully queer. Great characters, good story, absolutely nothing not to like. Will definitely be looking out for more by the same author and illustrator.
this was so freaking wholesome, the ending made me annoyed though cause i wanted more after they defeated the demon!!! but these two are adorable def most recent fav wlw couple and the fact that they're loving together works my heart.
I guess 1 star for the moody colors and 1 star for the queer and feminist tones?
But seriously strong minus points for cringe, plot, and basically everything else.
A sweet, well-intentioned, but ultimately uneven YA graphic novel about some magical folks and their super low-key, super we're-not-worried horse demon problem.
SO! Pluses:
- Excellent representation. One of the protagonists is hard of hearing, the other is non-binary. There are a couple lesbian grandmothers. And everyone is mostly easy-going, kind, and accepting. This is a breath of fresh air!!
- The art is mostly lovely, with a cozy aesthetic that is easy to get into.
- The ghost parents still being awkward parents was great.
- Pigeon-headed cousin. “Don't ask him about it, he still feels bad.” HA!
The cons:
- The book club agreement was that this was a slice of life story trying to break free of its awkwardly-middling-stakes supernatural thriller. Like, there is a horse demon roaming the forest. This is... dangerous? Bad? Not desirable? Everyone is like, “oh, that's no good” but in the same way you might remark on a pothole in your street. Everyone is quite chill about this HORSE DEMON and so I'm like, I do not care about this horse demon.
- The supernatural elements - the worldbuilding - also felt quite light, and left me wanting more.
Overall, it was fine, if a bit light. I would 100% be down for slice-of-life vignettes from this world.
I breezed through this one
It was cute, i loved the disability and the lgbtq+ representation. This was a cozy fantasy and i need more of these
First completed book for the 2022 Book Riot Read Harder Challenge:
4. Read a book set in a bookstore.
This was a very cute LGBTQ+ representation in a graphic novel. I loved the friendship between the 3 main girls. It is a story about overcoming your fear and being brave in the face of danger and new things.
THIS WAS SO SOOOOOO FANTASTIC!!!!!!!!! I want to Scream and Scream about it!!!!!! Ok first off, the Diversity was SO GOOD!!!!!!! It has a Non-binary werewolf (and they are EVERYTHING I'VE EVER WANTED OUT OF A WEREWOLF), a bi witch who uses hearing aids, Lesbian grandmas, And a fat friend who's a scientist!!!!!! I fell in LOVE with these characters SO FAST!!!!!!! And the Writing itself is So much Fun!!!!!! It's suuuuper fast paced too, I couldn't put it down until I had read it all in one sitting!!!!!! HIGHLY recommend this if you like graphic novels and fantasy books!!!!!!!!
Gentle magical coming of age. Very sweet. Hard of hearing main + queer romance.
