I just really enjoyed this book. It was not flawless, but my absolute yearning to read as much as I could every night deserves a 5 star rating.
As some reviewers have noted the characters did seem to have a lot of tricks up their sleeves that pulled them out of unlikely situations. Also, the political intrigue was nowhere near as fleshed out as that in some other fantasy books (ahem, GoT). I don't think the author intends for the reader to get worked up in the politics, though.
In a lot of ways, this is a coming of age story about Vin, and her new magical friend Kelsier.
I really like the world that Sanderson has built! I mean, I wouldn't want to live there, certainly not as a skaa, and really not even as nobility, but I found his setting very intriguing and with a lot of potential for storytelling.
This book is a great story filled with plot twists, a dash of romance, some family drama, thieves, and an awesome magic system.
