I was not quite expecting this book. I was assuming (because I don't always read the synopsis) that this was a run-of-the-mill cozy mystery, but this was much more than that.
Winspear used this first book to really set the stage for who Maisie was. We got most of her history here. It wasn't always happy, that's for sure. The mystery she's solving is almost an afterthought, though at the same time closely tied to her own past.
This was probably a cozy in the truest form. I could see myself binging on the series while curled up with a cup of tea and a warm blanket
