Mercedes Thompson, aka Mercy, is a talented Volkswagen mechanic living in the Tri-Cities area of Washington. She also happens to be a walker, a magical being with the power to shift into a coyote at will. Mercy's next-door neighbor is a werewolf. Her former boss is a gremlin. And she's fixing a bus for a vampire. This is the world of Mercy Thompson, one that looks a lot like ours but is populated by those things that go bump in the night. And Mercy's connection to those things is about to get her into some serious hot water...

A decent start to a series. Very matured and awesomely well written MC. And loved the voice of Lorelei King, what a wonderful narration.
Re-read 2024 GraphicAudio edition
Okay, this audio wasn't bad honestly. Some of the voice choices were really surprising, but I liked Mercy's soooo it worked out. Mostly what I'm surprised about is that this is only the 3rd time I've read this. Seriously... wow.

Re-read 2021
Still a great book, but if I was reading this for the first time I'd probably only give it 4 stars. This book seems like it is setting up the series and showing us most of the supernatural people out there. It is done really well, but this book compared to the rest of the series? I see why people don't enjoy it as much ^_^ Still really really enjoy it and I can't wait to continue on with this re-read!!

I can't remember when I first read this book but, it was back in 2012.
I love this book just as much now as I did then and I can't wait to start the next book. Since I'm actually not feeling too well I might just give into this impulse and start the next one.
There are times when reading a book you know is damn good is easier and more fun to do.
Mercy is absolutely amazing. I really want to mention that. She is a badass but, she she isn't perfect. She isn't this undefeatable force. She's just this woman who knows how to shoot a gun and use martial arts. She does her best to protect those she loves or feels the need to protect but, sometimes it doesn't work out exactly how she would want.
Because of this, I feel she is relate-able.
These books are a comfort to read and quite easy.
I've mentioned this beore but, I like how the supernatural aspect is pretty different. Werewolves have these rules that not many other books have AND there is Mercy who is a walker. Can't wait to learn once again what she can do!!
Definitely think everyone should give Mercy a try :)
I expected to be dazzled, and wasn't. But it is well written, very adventurous, filled with creatures and a decent plot, surpassing Charlaine Harris in many ways.
