I listened to the book after I finished with the Bedlam Bride and wanted a bit more of Matt Dinniman - oh what a surprise I got.

The book takes place in a different world which is even better described than the Dungeon Crawler Carl books but really hard and cold. It's a rollercoaster of emotions and to quote, sometimes "It's too much" and you need a small break. Because of the great and detailled descriptions you can really feel the world and what the main character is feeling. As it's sometimes torture and much pain, I felt a few times anxious and typical stress symptoms like pressure in my chest. But the story is great and you simply want to know what happens afterwards and the book is in the end much too short.

After the book you might need a break and let it sink. But it left me also with longing for more - but I haven't found anything quite comparable to the story and worldbuilding until now. I can only recommend this rollercoaster, but it's NOT Dungeon Crawler Carl.
