Jackaby

This series is one I've been wanting to start for a while, but just kept putting off. I'm so glad one of my favorite groups on Goodreads decided to read it and give me the kick in the pants I needed. Absolutely flew through this book. It has so much of things I enjoy.

To start, it has some great characters. Jackaby was a mix of Sherlock and Newt Scamander which totally worked for me. He is absolutely adorable. Abigail is more of the detective though, since she is so observant of the normal things– I really enjoyed her tenacity. The side characters are just as lovely and I hope we get of them in the next books, even from the duck.

Another thing I liked about this book is how even though it is a series and definitely feels like the beginning of a journey, could be read as a standalone. I like that feel of completion to a first book. There are still things left in the air, but not so much as to be exhausting.

It is such a charming read as well. I look forward to reading the next book soon! I will recommend this one to people who like some fantasy in there mysteries and won't mind that historical backdrop.
