There's so much things here cats wouldn't do, I didn't like it as much as I could have. Also, the drama is a bit too much for my taste.
The nostalgia is killing me . . .

Pretty alright, I could see a kid really enjoying this with all their heart. But as an adult it's a little repetitive and uninteresting at times. And I really do not like all the names that are slightly different from each other. Looking at you "...paw" but still very good book overall.
Overall, it was a good story, but I feel like the ending was somewhat anticlimactic. The “problem” at the end of the book (with Shadowclan) was simultaneously resolved too quickly and not at all. The fact that Firepaw never warned Bluestar about Tigerclaw was also very frustrating, although understandable. I can see that the authors were basically setting it up to continue the story into the second one. It feels like book one is almost just half the story, you just want more.
Regardless of the somewhat unsatisfying ending “confrontation”, the rest of the story was wonderful. The world-building and culture surrounding the clans is rich and interesting. The custom regarding names, sharing tongues, the warrior code - all of it was exciting to learn alongside Firepaw.
Firepaw- where do I start with him? I usually don't like the main protagonist, but him I loved! He's ignorant and slightly offensive at the beginning, but makes up with it with maturity, personal reflection, curiosity, intelligence, and perseverance. He truly earned his new name at the end of the book.
so i first read this book in middle school and found myself wanting to reread it recently. it definitely reminded me why i loved it so much then! the world-building and storytelling is amazing! it's such a great book!
Iconic series. So much nostalgia.
I forgot how the writing style was in the first book and boy I am glad it improves over time.

...grab me liked I'd hoped when I'd read the blurb. There is nothing wrong with the characters or the story, and nothing jumped out at my inner proof reader. You make up your own mind but this one wasn't for me.
I read this because my ten year old was reading it. He got bored after 20 pages. So did I, but finished it anyway. Maybe I would have enjoyed this as a kid, but I doubt it. I guess if you like cat drama, you'll enjoy this book.
This was very upsetting to me personally as someone who a) is v sensitive about bad things happening to animals and b) gets annoyed by too many Fantasy Words Per Page.
Kids go nuts for these though so idk man

I just don't want to read any more of this book. The pacing is quick, but unexciting. The setting is unique (in my experience), but the execution is boring. I thought I'd love a book about cats, but I guess my affection for felines can't get me through strictly average writing.
