I think I'd give this 3.5 if I could. It took me quite a while to get into the story but once I was in I was hooked. I think more than anything I just wish I could read characters in and out of books. I've been dwelling on it a lot: which books would I choose and who would I summon? (Gut instincts keep coming back to Harry Potter...I'd like to have Fred and George around for a bit.) The characters are unforgettable and the adventure is exciting.I did keep getting hung up on the fact that this book (apparently) takes place in modern times. It seems like it should be from some era long past so it's a bit jarring when the characters mention riding in cars and doing modern everyday things.
