So, I'm thinking I went into this book thinking it would be something else and... this isn't what I was expecting. I do usually try to read more, at least 100 pages, before quitting. This book just didn't get lucky because recently I've been going through so-so books and I'm waiting for a good one. I just don't have patience right now.
To start off, I absolutely LOVE the book cover. That is what initially drew me to the book. The little running guys remind me of Portal (videogame) and I could stare at it for periods of time.
I wish I liked the book more because, I'd love a poster of the cover :/
The book is very political– since it revolves around an election.
Unfortunately, I felt confused and didn't know what really was going on. I think there should have been more explanation on what things were or even explain the time and setting. Really, I felt thrown in and was stumbling around.
I think a book ought to be self-explanatory and not be dependent on the synopsis so that the reader will understand.
THEN AGAIN, I didn't read that much so, maybe it gets more explained later.
The one thing I really want to know (no I don't even want to know if there will be a war or how the election will turn out) is what Domaine's goal was. He doesn't want people to vote... why and how and what are you trying to accomplish!? Unfortunately, I don't want to know bad enough to continue reading.
What I did like was seeing Japanese in the book, as person with a B.A. in Japanese I'm quite biased. At the same time, I thought it was weird how Japanese words were there when the people are wearing translator pieces. It seemed out of place... nothing that the normal reader really needed to know but, I don't know what is written later.
If you like politics, sci-fi, cyber-punk ?, and perhaps thrillers, I definitely think you should read this.
Just because it isn't my thing doesn't mean it won't be yours ^_^
