Il priorato dell'albero delle arance

The book does a great job of teleporting you in the fantasy world, although the first chapters may appear overwhelming because of the infodump. I generally found myself enjoying the secondary characters more, and would have liked them to be explored more, something you'd expect in a 800 something pages book, but no. I loved the whole dragon thing, and would have liked to met more of them, but apart from the villain and Nayimathun we do not get the chance.

 I was not the biggest fan of Ead and Sabran, while I did not find their relationship forced, I did find it... weak. I did not feel the love between them, nor the passion, which can be found instead in the beautiful friendship between Tané and Nayimathun. I loved their relationship way more than Ead and Sabran's (or anybody else's) and would have liked the book to focus more on Tané, the dragons, and her friends, like Onren, whom we get to know shortly to then disappear (Or Susa. Or her other friend that get sent to the island. Instead they are all killed off without us knowing nothing about them. Unfortunately, this is not the only times that happens   Like mostly of the secondary characters. Instead the books heavily focuses on the Queendom, which I really did not care about, as I found Sabran to be a quite weak character if confronted with Ead or Tané: she's the queen, we know that she's good at giving speeches, but everything else is not well dived into. For instance, even when it's time to make new alliances it's mostly Ead's ideas, so i was like “you're the queen, do you ever do something?” but I liked her personality. 

Despite the book being called the priory of the orange tree, we actually know little to nothing about it, which left me confused as hell. The book literally explains more about the Queendom rather than the priory. 

Lastly, the final is rushed. I'd hoped it wouldn't be the case, given the length of the book, but alas. To many things left unexplained for me. Hence the rating 

La grandezza del romanzo fa paura, è vero, e non è certo la cosa più comoda da leggere sdraiati a letto, ma è inaspettatamente scorrevole e in poco tempo si è totalmente immersi nel mondo magico, in mezzo a draghi e magia. I personaggi sono molto diversi da loro e guidati da una propria morale (anche se avrei voluto che alcuni avessero più spazio), in particolare ho trovato la regina Sabran un personaggio particolarmente realistico.

Tuttavia, ho una sola grande critica da fare.

Capisco perfettamente che l'idea fosse quella di offrire al pubblico di lettori un'avventura fantastica tutta d'un fiato, senza dover aspettare altri libri di un'ipotetica saga; ma con me ha sortito l'effetto opposto. La trama è interessante, elaborata è c'è una giusta varietà di personaggi tuttavia è l'esecuzione che mi ha lasciata interdetta: cose affrettate, momenti con grande pathos rilegato ad un paio di righe che mi hanno rattristata solo perché sapevo che dovevano rattristarmi. Cose che sarebbero state evitabili o con un romanzo ancora più lungo (come se non lo fosse abbastanza) o, ahimè, con la divisione della storia in più libri. 
Con ciò non intendo dire che il romanzo non mi è piaciuto, anzi, ne consiglio comunque la lettura, ma lo ritengo un progetto fin troppo ambizioso che mi ha parzialmente delusa.
