Again, not a romance, not a comedy – like what was supposed to be funny?–, maybe could be considered cozy, but is mostly sci-fi and politics. There is soooo much explaining and details of how the Universal Society works or can be worked. I'm just so bummed the fake dating thing wasn't explored and their feelings for each other were just... there? Maybe? And then the book just kind of ended out of nowhere. I mean, not nowhere, but everything interesting happens off page because she can't be teleported with them and they had to in order to do all the exciting bits.
So... idk the philosophical questions that pop up and the socio-political discussions are interesting and I do really like the characters, which is what is what got me to read 2 books in this series, but those are things that can and do go above my head – because I'm not here to think broadly about a ton of different issues (give me 2-3 a book maybe)– I just want a fun romance in space, which this really isn't.
That all being said, it isn't a bad book and I had a lovely time reading it. Just, recognize what genre of book this is before diving in.
