A quick read, but it sure packs a punch.
More than just a “middle” grade book- this is suitable and applicable for all.
If you work with kiddos and already worry about the things they endure, just be ready for this one to hurt.
As someone who had a trach, and was treated at Cincinnati Childrens and on the Complex Airway Unit, I couldn't help but have a special place in my heart for this story. But it's more than just a story about a family. It challenges our view of our youth. It challenges our view of right and wrong. It challenges. And I'm grateful for that. If I were a teacher, I'd make it a part of my curriculum. Because I'm not, I'm planning to just do my best to make all of my friends read it instead.
*3.5 stars. Would have been a solid 4 or even 4.5, but I was not a fan of the ending (the last segment of plot OR the last page. Honestly I can't tell you which disappointed me more.).
Excellent, moving story, and creatively done. My daughter picked this book out at the bookstore. I tell ya, she's got a knack for picking good ones!
