I received this novel in the Strand's Book HookUp earlier this year. It is stylishly written, and for obvious reasons, I personally appreciate fiction that features characters who haven't always adhered to the usual life-cycle milestones. When a book is this short, however, I think that keeping the storytelling balanced and spacious is paramount and this one just missed that mark.
