Rae is an insufferable main character.. I could not stand her after about the 20% mark. I wanted to like this but..
read for dark romance readathon 2022: trigger warning
i had so much fun with this and the smut was phenomenal but as a demon i feel like leon would have been more hesitant to “love” a human
So much hype for this book. Maybe I'm not in the mood. I'm about 63% of the way through and it's taken me weeks to get that far! Maybe I will come back around.
The romance plot is a bit cliché, as well as the characters. The dark side of the “dark romance” had potential, it sounded interesting, but the romance side feels more like Wattpad fan fiction. Not that that's a bad thing, but it just didn't captivate me. Although the writing is engaging for moments. I liked the depiction of the environment through the eyes of Rae. I might pick it back up at some point.
The overuse of “baby girl” in the second half anoyed me, plus Rae stupidity, but the story itself was enjoyableand was a quck fun read that got me out of reading slump.

3 Stars
I wanted to love this one & I actually found it enjoyable for the most part. The blend of romance and horror was quite nice since those are my two main genres. I absolutely loved Leon, and the writing was good.
So....why didn't I love it? One word. RAELYNN.
She took off a whole star all on her own. I swear that this girl's ears were purely for decoration. She listened to NOTHING and got herself almost killed MULTIPLE times. She had no redeeming qualities. I have no clue how Leon fell in love with her.
& when she trapped him in the little demon circle thingy after he had been so vulnerable to fall asleep at her house?? I wanted to fight her.
Hands down, one of the worst female leads that I have ever read. I would have rejoiced if she died at the end of the book.
A few of my other issues were that I felt like their relationship was insta-love. That's okay in certain settings, but I felt like their relationship needed to be more fleshed out. I would have preferred a trilogy (or even a duet) about this couple with the first book being based on building their relationship. Also, the world that the author built could have been really cool and immersive but world building was definitely put on the back burner.
All in all, it wasn't a bad book. I just wanted more from it. (& definitely some redeeming qualities for Rae.)
This book served where I wanted it to. I found some of the side characters to be underdeveloped and leaning on tropes, but the spicy scenes, all of the scenery exposition, and the likability of the main couple made me stick around. Paranormal Romance is a genre for me, no doubt. Demons, hauntings, murders, cults, witches, and set during Halloween? Bless.
I love this book so much. It's o e of those kinds of books that gets you back into reading romance. And it's my first dark romance. I love it!! I also loved all the characters.
I feel like I got tricked into reading a Scooby-Doo fanfic about Velma, but if she was the dumbest dumb-dumb ever.
I just finished Her Soul to Take by Harley Laroux and here are my thoughts.
When Rae decides to go back to her family's home town to finish her schooling, she never thought she would walk into the family legacy. The town is built on a dark history and her homecoming has been anxiously awaited.....
When she bumps into Leon on campus, a handsome but rude man, she can't help but wonder what it would be like to let him use her in all the dirty ways her mind can conjure, except Leon is no man, and he isn't the only one in town who wants to possess her soul.
I don't read a lot of dark romance but when @kensingtonbooks gifted me a copy, I couldn't help but give this one a shot. I like the author's writing style. It flowed well and was a little edgy which I quite liked. I thought the characters were well rounded but there wasn't enough time in the book to get more of the history of the town and to know more about Rae's ancestors. There was so much that was missing for me. I hate when I want more and it doesn't deliver. That being said, I really enjoyed the plot and what was there. The smutty scenes weren't done for maximum shock either, it felt like it fit in with where the book was going rather than being unnecessary. I love anything witchy so summoning demons is right up my alley.
It did feel a little bit too clean at the end but I am a sucker for HEA so that didn't bother me at all.
I would definitely check the triggers before you start this one.
As far a monster p0rn goes... this one was a 4 star!

3.75⭐️ is my go to rating when I can't give a book the whole 4 stars for some reason so that's what this book is getting
The eerie creepy vibes were right up my alley. Obviously the spice was really good cause it's Harley Laroux but the plot was also great. I wish there were more witchy scenes but I'm guessing it's coming in another book
I can't put my finger on exactly why I can't rate this higher, I just know that I had a great time reading but something was missing
A low 3.
This did not need to be nearly 500 pages long. Not going to continue reading the next ones.
4.5/5
I LOVE Harley Laroux and this book def just solidified it (if the losers duo didn't already). This book was so spooky and smutty that I am IN LOVE and cannot wait to read the rest. I definitely stayed up way too late too many nights in a row to read this book but it was totally worth it.
The main character may have been a bit “too” dumb for me but overall I liked it. It was a fun premise.
Started reading cause of the trigger warnings, stayed for a good story and amazing smut scenes.
DNF at 40%... I just couldn't connect with the book... Maybe demon smut isn't for me. The se scenes are sub par especially when “he sucks on her labia like a meal” excuse me what?
3.5/5 stars
I definitely enjoyed a lot about this book. The story line was interesting and high stakes, and the characters were fully fleshed out. Not to mention the authors attention to detail when describing scenes. It was fully immersive and I had a good time reading it.
The only things that I did not enjoy was Rae's whining. That got in the way so often that I never fully believed in their romance. Also, I personally think the story could have been a bit shorter since there was not much happening around the middle of the book. Things just got repetitive.
Leon was very smutty yet adorable though and that made up for everything.
If you are reading this book just for the sex scenes then you are the winner, winner chicken dinner. If you want to read about an allegedly bad ass demon that is a such a killer they put it with a capital K but that's never really showcased BUT he's got a forked tongue and extra ridges on his pipe of delight, then grab this book. If you want to read about a FMC who does literally the opposite of what she should do every single time, then you'll have a great time here.
I didn't hate the book. But there was a lot of wasted potential. Juni and Everly are wasted side characters when you have a main character like Rae. Giving very much Harry and Neville vibes. I really just wanted to sit back and enjoy the hot parts but clocking in at 459 pages I need more than just that.
I know this is supposed to be Horror Erotica, but... I would've enjoyed it more if I only had the horror part 😅
It's not as if the erotica part was bad, it's just that I felt the characters changed way too much from what they felt throughout other scenes from the story... I don't even know if that makes sense🤦🏼♀️
But anyway, let's focus on praising the parts I loved, shall we?
The worldbuilding was so good (don't ask me why my brain made it look like it was the Twilight movie? 😅 anyway...). The monsters, ugh, those fuckers were so beautifully described I almost got nightmares (yeah, I'm a scaredy cat, don't mind me), I was able to picture them full on and that's what actually makes me love books, to be able to immerse myself in the stories. Also, big shout out to Elizianna (elizianna.the.one on Instagram) for making me carve this books with her drawings. Check her out to see Rae and Leon, they look A M A Z I N G!
The ending was not probably what I was expecting but I won't really go into that, you'll have to read the book for that!
If you're into horror and are carving some spicy spicyness, go ahead and give this book a go!
