It shouldn't be a secret to anybody that I'm a huge nerd, but if you didn't already know it, here's a tell-tale sign: I've got a crush on Hellboy. The comic book character. Maybe I'm just displacing the feelings that I've got for his creator, Mike Mignola, since Hellboy is the one I've been developing a “relationship” with while reading these brilliant and beautiful books, but I'm hooked. Erudite and witty, I savor every single panel for the simplicity (and complexity) of composition. Not a single panel, line of dialogue, or plot element is wasted. Short stand-alone stories get tied into the overall arc of the HB mythology. The series is genius. I may be in love.
