This is not what I expected for my first book by Rushdie. It's funny and imaginative and delightful. It made me smile. It made me laugh. It made me chant along at parts. I think the best word for it is charming. It is charming.
This is one of my first fantasy novels, and I must say that I am not disappointed. Rushdie wrote his story in such a way that I would not doubt it had come from the “Sea of Stories” itself. Writing this as a fully-grown man, the one thing I liked most about this book is that it brought back those feelings of childhood wonderment that one experiences watching a classic Disney cartoon for the first time. I will be seeking out his other works and I recommend you do too!
сказка, такая милая, мб слишком детская, как Настоящая принцесса, только про мальчика из Индии
Such a sweet and fun little story! I so enjoyed it and found it to be really easily read and digestible. I understand why it might be a childrens' favorite.
It's been a long since since I had a book draw so beautiful images in my head, making a whole animation movie while reading it. This book is full of wonders, tales and magic, it makes you dream again like a child and makes me want to read it to my god-daughter to let her discover this magnificent tale of Haroun. And makes me want to go on a journey on the ocean of stories...
Very enjoyable. Written for children in the best way–and therefore completely entertaining and thought-provoking for an adult. Well, for this adult at least. Rushdie adds his thinking about the nature of stories to our long philosophical conversation. If the questions, “What is ‘fiction' anyway?” and “What do stories have to do with real life?” intrigue you, spend a while with Haroun, his father Rashid, and all the friends they meet on the hidden moon.
A 1001 CBYMRBYGU.
Haroun's father, Rashid, is an amazing storyteller. But one day his stories disappear. Haroun, with the help of a crazy bus driver and a water genie, go on a quest to restore stories to the world.
