"Nineteen-year-old Harley Merlin can sense people's emotions, among other things. It's how she snagged her first job pinpointing cheaters at a casino. But she has no clue where she got these freakish powers because she spent her childhood jumping from home to home in the foster system, and her father left her with nothing more than a cryptic note. Then she crosses paths with a terrifyingly real monster. Which is when a mysterious and annoyingly arrogant young warlock named Wade Crowley steps in, introducing her to a hidden world of magicals and covens riddled with secrets--as well as clues about her murky past"--Back cover.

So, I've been seeing this author's books floating around and decided to start with this series. I thought it was... okay. I actually really enjoyed the beginning and thought we'd be getting something great, but I think personally I'm tired of the new girl being the one to gain everyone's trust immediately, save the day, and gain high powered enemies. I'm not interested anymore.
This is supposed to be a new adult book, and yet everyone acts like high schoolers, which was weird. Also weird? The ones being sent on the super important mission were 19-21 year olds – one who only just learned about her powers and not... I don't know any of the other older adults who may be more knowledgeable. Why are these kids the ones who are the strongest and gaining the coven the most points??? It just seemed so weird!! I feel like she should have made this a university or something.
So... yeah, an interesting story and I'm slightly wanting to know where it will go, but not enough to keep going.
