Spoilers beware–including the ending!! Don't read if you don't want to know!!

This is an ugly cry book that I consider to end without an HEA. There is a book two where Kacey gets her HEA, but it's not with Jonah--because he's dead. There, I said it. I knew there was a book two and decided not to read the blurb. On one hand, I'm disappointed that I didn't, because I generally want a wham-bam story with an HEA (yes, my tastes are pretty singular), and the high ratings convinced me Jonah was going to get a new heart at the end of book 1, and book 2, All-In, would be a continuation of his and Kacey's story--it's not. On the other hand, if I'd known Jonah died, I probably wouldn't have read the book, which would have been a shame because it's well written and sometimes you need a good, hard, ugly cry. While I don't mind a good cry before the HEA, I like to save those books that end with no HEA and an ugly cry to read when I'm in a certain mood. I'm depressed enough without investing time in and falling in love with a character that dies. Maybe that's shallow, but a story that's as good as this stays with you, and I don't need that weighing on my heart until I'm in the right state of mind.I'm still thinking about the rating. It's unfair to downgrade because of the lack of HEA, but I'm kind of hurting and not pleased with that. Still, that I have such feels speaks volumes about the writing and story. So, no rating for now.
