Taylor Jenkins Reid has done it again and created a heartfelt and emotional story that is so real and raw.
After a six month whirlwind romance Elsie Porter elopes with the love her life Ben Ross in Las Vegas. And as they are settling into the excitement of newlywed life tragedy strikes and Ben is killed in a freak accident.
In the aftermath Elsie meets her mother in law Susan for the first time. And they both must come to terms with the their shared loss and learn how to navigate a life without Ben together.
What a beautiful exploration on the far reaching impact of grief following the loss of a loved one. This story showed the raw and ugly journey towards healing.
Elsie's pain was palpable and leapt off the pages. I commiserated with her in her grief because I would be as inconsolable and last without my husband.
I enjoyed the inclusion of the mother in law Susan who played a major part in helping Elsie to heal and process her loss.
And the tender friendship with the older library patron George was so sweet.
This book broke my heart and simultaneously put it back together piece by piece. Such a powerful book.
I lost interest and had to keep forcing myself to come back to this. Maybe if I were in a different phase of life this book might be more interesting? Book club spoilers definitely saved me from trying to brute force my way through the ending.
This is her first book and i'm so happy to see her improvement over the years.
I honestly couldn't wait to finish this book because I just got so tired of reading about Elsie.
Also I feel like the love Elsie and Ben shared was a bit insta lovey and too dependent for me.
3.3/5- eh... read it cause it was TJR, some cute quotes, nothing really great tho:(
2.5. You can tell this is Taylor Jenkin Reid's first novel. I'm probably rating this so hard because I really, really enjoy her novels (especially Evelyn Hugo.) It's not a bad read. The conversations are just lack authenticity and I just felt like I wasn't fully connected to the characters, or their choices.
This book was an unexpected experience. I started to listen to it just based on the author, without reading the synopsis and wow...I wasn't expecting the first chapter and what happened next. This is a completely character driven story, little to nothing happens, yet it's emotional and sweet.
It deals with grief and loss, so keep it in mind when deciding to read it, however it's gentle and hopeful and narrates a beautiful love story
Man, I do enjoy Taylor Jenkins Reid's books. They seem so effortless (which I'm sure means she works hard on them!). This one had love and loss and overcoming grief and it was just so well done.
Ainda assim, gostei desta leitura.
