Everything the Darkness Eats

i was so, so looking foreword to finally reading Eric LaRocca that i preordered a copy of this because it looked so gorgeous (note to self: matte black books get scuffed up SUPER easily). i read 70 pages in one sitting, hoping i'd adjust to the writing style, but i just couldn't. the writing itself felt like it was trying too hard and the story couldn't keep my interest. i'm so sad this didn't work for me.

for anyone who HAS finished this: is there any explanation as to why such a violently homophobic town would hire an outwardly gay (married, even!) muslim cop?
