too short,, i think eottias is still myfavourote but i enjoy the satirisation of this one the most,,.... paced well still clever and the final scene is really fun
There is far less of the pillars and shtick that made the first two novels in this series so engaging here - i.e. the level of fourth-wall breaking and the extreme use of forshadowing / literary refernces - but there is still a strong mystery, decent characters, and enough to surprises to make the short read worthwhile. The weaving in of the Christmas theme and another (loose) set of rules works well and the âarmchair detective' routine is effective yet again. But most of the enjoyment still comes via the continuously engaging protagonist and the intricacy or depth to the final expositions.
Do you think it will be weird if I show up to Benjamin Stevenson's house with a bouquet of flowers and balloons and ask to live near him all the time? Will be report me?
This was my first Benjamin Stevenson mystery, and I enjoyed it! It was a well-done holiday mystery, with lots of winks and nodsâand plenty of clues to readers who want to play along. Although technically a Christmas mystery, or âholiday specialâ as the author refers to it throughout, there certainly wasn't much joy or merriment. Just well done clues and a satisfying conclusion, all done under a holiday theme.
I haven't read it of course but I am sure it will be a 5 star book just like the other two.
160 pages for this story seems too short though! :(
