2024 Update:
Edgedancer is one of my favorite novellas. A perfect balance of storytelling with just the right amount of action, comedy and development. It's not too long, or too short.
Lift is one of the best secondary characters out there. And I always love reading her chapters in The Stormlight Archive, which make this spotlight of her amazing. Having listened to it the second time around, Kate Reading makes her sound exactly what I hoped her to be like. She's makes herself a heroine in her own way and disregarding the rest of world around her; choosing the path less travelled. A 13 year old who proves to be wittier than any adult out there.____Audio read by: Kate Reading1st Read: Physical [Arcanum Unbounded] (2018)Re-read: Audiobook (2024)
This was a fun short read for fans of the Stormlight Archive. I enjoy the character of Lift, even if she can be somewhat annoying at times. Edgedancer gives her some backstory and introduces some complexity into her character.
I'm very much looking forward to Lift becoming a main character in the future!
I enjoyed this story, though I'm still not sure how I feel about the character, Lift. I was truly hoping this story would delve more in to her past... sadly, it did not. But, it's chocked full of more of Sanderson's telltale world building in the world of the Stormlight Archives.
It was good, but not as good as I was hoping it would be. Lift has the potential to be a really great character, but she needs some work. I can't say I understand her or her motivations and she can get a bit annoying sometimes. But there is plenty of room for growth and I'm sure Sanderson will fix it in the main series.
