So in short-
Decide exactly what you want; in life, clarity is essential. Plan every day in advance; every minute you spend in planning can save you five or ten minutes in execution. Twenty percent of your activities will account for eighty percent of your results. Always focus your efforts on that top twenty percent. Lastly, Your most important tasks and priorities are those that can have the most serious consequences, positive or negative, on your life or work. Concentrate on these above anything else.
Before you start work on a list of tasks, take a few minutes to arrange them by value and priority so you can be sure of working on your essential activities.
Audiobook
Some really good points on overcoming procrastination and anxiety associated with large, intimidating tasks. He also had some sections that were no longer relevant (like trying to be disconnected in our current world) and some off putting comments (like be more productive by coming to work earlier, staying later, not talking with coworkers).
Overall, good read and would reccomend to those that struggle getting started when the task seems intimidating.
Good productivity book for people who don't like productivity books. Short, actionable chapters that will introduce you to a bunch of different methods for getting and staying focused.
I re-read this every couple of years. Chock full of really great ideas on how to stop procrastination. Pickup something new each time.
This book has a lot of practical advice for getting things done. Even though I knew most of it, I found that reading the book (it's short) was worthwhile just as a source of motivation. It's going to change your life, but it might help.
This was on my to-read list for some reason... I no longer remember why.
Anyhow, it's got some mildly interesting ideas/tips in it, but is mostly a rehash of GTD, but written like a sales pitch and padded out with incredibly insipid tripe.
Here's an example, from the section on “Control Your Inner DIalogue” (which, by the way, is perfectly good advice in and of itself):
To keep yourself motivated and to overcome feelings of doubt or fear, continually tell yourself, “I can do it! I can do it!” When people ask how you are, always tell them, “I feel terrific!”
