While for the most part I found the book enjoyable it was strangely lacking in real action. The action scenes that were there were glossed over pretty quickly and then it was a lot of plotting that actually went nowhere. I didn't feel like the characters were really fleshed out fully. There were just....there. What I did like about the book was the history. I could imagine a teenager reading this and then going off to research how much of it was real. Sure, zombies don't exist, but the way Black people were treated was quite accurate.
