I was captivated by Rodman's world building the moment I started reading the first book. The dragons, their riders, rituals and secrets living in a hidden society amongst the human race and leading a never ending battle against the tylwyth who are opening portals and trying to invade our dimensional plane. It was a solid, well-thought and even more surprisingly well written beginning of unique fantasy world. So I was really impatiently waiting the continuation to see what will happen next. And this second installment didn't disappoint. Here the bonds between Harlen, Kirby and Cai strenghten and develop exponentially - they learn, they listen, they observe step by step turning into an unbreakable triad that love, value and protect each other, face challenges together, build strategies and deflect attacks that threaten not only their safety but the safety of their dragons. I loved the added twists and turns, the personal growth of the characters. Seeing the story unfolds from Harlen's point of view/ this horny bugger lol/, I truly, deeply enjoyed the edge and spiciness to their interactions. But what really impressed me was the way they took in stride the upending of the world they knew and was raised into. it's a steep, difficult and jarring learning curve which I suppose, we will see develop and give results in the third book.
