Definitely some clear (and deliberate) Austin Powers vibes and the enjoyable, witty tone mixed with clever turn of phrases give the story a quick and clear enough pace for the obscure premise. It leverages what one might call ‘smart humor' - think the writing on shows like Modern Family - to great effect and the journey actually feels like one long inside joke that you slowly get as the book goes on. In fact, the writer even uses the silliness of it all to raise some pretty big philosophical/existential questions in a fun way that also seems to work really well with the other components.
